The Secretary for the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Willard Manungo hailed the ZIMRA annual Taxpayer Appreciation Awards saying they provide  Government with a platform to thank compliant taxpayers for their contribution in sustaining the nation.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, which was held on 30 October 2017, Mr Manungo commended ZIMRA for its concerted efforts in improving the ease of doing business for the public.

“I applaud the efforts that the Authority is putting in place to improve areas that cause inconveniences to the transacting public, such as infrastructural issues at Beitbridge Border Post that result in bottlenecks.”

He also spoke passionately about ZIMRA’s increasing use of information communication technology which is at the heart of the country’s economic blueprint – the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZIM-ASSET). This ICT drive includes the rolling out of Electronic Cargo Tracking System in May 2017 and the Authority’s consistent upgrade of the ASYCUDA system, among other initiatives.

Taxpayer Appreciation Awards were introduced in 2011 to honour compliant taxpayers who pay their taxes and customs duties on time and in full. This year the awards ceremony was held under the theme, ““Honouring highest tax contributors for economic prosperity”.
