ZIMRA
commemorates International Customs Day
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) joined the Customs fraternity
and the World Customs Organisation (WCO) in commemorating International
Customs Day under the theme, “Customs and business: improving
performance through partnerships.”
The International Customs fraternity celebrates International Customs
Day on January 26 each year under the auspices of World Customs
Organisation. The day identifies the efforts of people working in
Customs organisations worldwide and their contribution to making
communities safe, secure and prosperous.
Speaking on a live radio interview, ZIMRA’s Acting Commissioner
General, Mr Tichawona G Chiradza pointed out that this year’s
theme “captures the essence of Customs-private sector partnerships
and underscores the importance of cooperation in the efficient facilitation
of trade and travel.” The ZIMRA boss underscored the need
for stakeholders to make a commitment and work together.
Mr Chiradza implored that the day is of high significance to the
Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) since it has come at a time the
Authority has made huge strides in facilitating swift and hassle-free
trade and travel.
He further added that the day came at a time when people are looking
forward to the FIFA 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa. This
calls upon ZIMRA to be ready for this task and to work jointly with
its stakeholders to manage the influx of people crossing the Zimbabwean
borders in line with this year’s theme.
Mr Chiradza also noted that ZIMRA made a lot of notable achievements
in 2009 and this includes the commissioning of the Chirundu One
Stop Border Post, the first of its kind in Southern Africa.
